Medications Which Control Depression:

Doxepin (Sinequan)

Nortriptyline (Pamelor)

(Both Tricyclic Antidepressants)

Prescribed for:

Depression, with or without symptoms of anxiety or sleep disturbance; chronic pain including migraine, tension headache, diabetic disease, tic douloureux, cancer, herpes lesions, and arthritis; pathologic laughing or weeping caused by brain disease; bulimia; sleep apnea; peptic ulcer disease; cocaine withdrawal; panic disorder; eating disorder; premenstrual depression; and skin problems.

Most Common Side Effects:

Drowsiness, dizziness,  blurred vision, constipation, dry mouth, sleepiness.

Paxil (Paroxetine)

Prescribed for:

Depression; also prescribed for diabetic nerve disease, headache and premature ejaculation.

Most Common Side Effects:

Headache, weakness, sleep disturbances, dizziness, and tremors.

Prozac (Fluoxetine)

Prescribed for:

Depression, bulimic binge-eating and vomiting, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); also prescribed for obesity, alcoholism, anorexia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar affective disorder, borderline personality disorder, cataplexy and narcolepsy, kleptomania, migraine headache, chronic daily headache, tension headaches, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome, dyskinetic side effects of levodopa, and social phobias.

Most Common Side Effects:

Headache, anxiety, nervousness, sleeplessness, drowsiness, tiredness, weakness, tremors, sweating, dizziness, light-headedness, dry mouth, upset or irritated stomach, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach gas, rash, and itching.

Remeron (Mirtazapine)

Prescribed for:

Depression.

Most Common Side Effects:

Tiredness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, weight gain, large increases in blood cholesterol and/or triglyceride levels, weakness, and flu symptoms.

Serzone (Nefazodone)

Prescribed for:

Depression.

Most Common Side Effects:

Weakness, dry mouth, nausea, constipation, blurred or abnormal vision, tiredness, dizziness, light-headedness, and confusion.

Wellbutrin-Zyban (Bupropion)

Prescribed for:

Depression and nicotine addiction.

Most Common Side Effects:

Dry mouth, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headache including migraine, excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, constipation, appetite loss, weight changes, sedation, agitation, sleeplessness, and tremors.
